FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST FOR?

The lifespan of a set of eyelash extensions can depend on many different factors. Depending on how quickly your lashes grow, how well you maintain them and how many natural lashes you have will depend on your retention. Generally speaking, a fresh set typically lasts between 2-3 weeks before needing a refill.

DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS MAKE YOUR EYELASHES FALL OUT?

The natural lash cycle is 90 days, during that time, your eyelashes will grow to a certain length then fall out. We naturally don’t notice our eyelashes fall out as much as we do when we have extensions because our natural eyelash hair is so fine and short. When a long, thick and dark extension is applied to an eyelash, we notice them more when they shed. It becomes more noticeable when looking at the eye when they are falling out as the extensions start to disappear. This is why we need refills, to replace the extensions that have grown out with the natural lash onto a new lash that has grown through.

WHY CAN'T PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN OIL BE USED ON MY EYES?

Oil is the biggest killer of extension glue. It softens the bond which then becomes tacky which may cause the lashes to clump together and fall off prematurely. When using products such as foundation, concealer, face cleansers and moisturisers, use sparingly around the eye area. Any product that is applied close to the eye area has the potential to stick to the extensions and de-bond the glue over time without proper cleansing.

WILL EXTENSIONS MAKE MY NATURAL EYELASHES SHORTER?

Everybody’s eyelashes have a genetically determined length. If extensions are applied correctly, the natural lash growth cycle should not be effected. When clients remove extensions after a long period of time, they are under the false perception that their lashes are shorter than what they were before they had extensions. This usually is because they have been used to having longer and thicker extensions for a long period of time.

CAN I GET MY EXTENSIONS WET?

Within the first 12-24 hours of getting your extensions done, water and steam should be avoided as the glue needs enough time to cure and bond correctly. After the first 24 hours, water presents no problem with extensions. Though, excessive steam may effect the retention to the glue bond. Long, hot showers, steam rooms, and saunas should be avoided to ensure longevity of your extensions.

DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS HURT?

You will feel that they are there, but they should never feel uncomfortable. Any time you experience discomfort, it should be raised immediately with your technician. The application and post treatment should be pain-free and comfortable at all times. Extensions should never pull or tug your eyelashes, feel heavy, itchy or in the way; this is a sign of poorly applied extensions.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEANSE MY EYELASHES?

Your eyelash extensions should be thoroughly cleansed at least every second day, every day if you are wearing makeup. Not washing your extensions will lead to build up of dead skin, oils and makeup. Washing your extensions will prevent this from happening, which results in cleaner lashes. Cleaner lashes lead to better retention!

WILL GOING TO THE GYM EFFECT MY EXTENSIONS?

Excessive sweating may impact the retention rate and may result in lashes getting stuck together when saturated. To help counteract this, cleansing the lashes after working out is highly recommended to keep them clean to maintain great retention.
